Frequently Asked Questions

Our goal is for you to find peace of mind when making an important decision.

Are Giant Schnauzers Good with Other Pets?

Giant Schnauzers are known to be a bit of a bully towards other dogs, cats, and small animals. So, if you’ve got other pets, it might be best to keep them away from these big guys. But don’t worry, early socialization can help them become friendly and well-adjusted around other dogs and pets.

Are Giant Schnauzers Good with Kids?

Giant Schnauzers are generally patient with children from their own family. However, due to their large and boisterous nature, they may not be the best choice for families with very young children. While it’s important to supervise all children with Giant Schnauzers, it’s especially crucial to be cautious around children they don’t know.

Are Giant Schnauzers Good Guard Dogs?

Giant Schnauzers, bred as guard dogs and retaining that skill to this day, bark loudly to alert their households to potential danger and aggressively defend their property against any intruders.

Are Giant Schnauzers hypoallergenic?

Absolutely! Giant Schnauzers are among the largest breeds known for being hypoallergenic. Their wiry coats shed very little, which means there’s less pet dander around your home. Regular grooming can help reduce dander even more. Remember, no dog is completely hypoallergenic.

Are Giant Schnauzers terriers?

Nope! Giant Schnauzers are actually working dogs. Their smaller relatives, the Miniature Schnauzers, are classified as terriers, which can sometimes cause a bit of confusion. Miniature Schnauzers were specifically bred to hunt vermin, a typical terrier trait, whereas Giant Schnauzers were bred for herding and guarding. People looking for a large hypoallergenic dog often find themselves deciding between Giant Schnauzers and Airedale Terriers, as both share a similar square body shape and rectangular head.

Can Giant Schnauzers swim?

Yes, Giant Schnauzers can learn to swim, and many of them really enjoy it! Just like humans, dogs have their own preferences, so it’s important to introduce your Giant Schnauzer to water gently and not push them into it. Always keep a close eye on your dog while they’re swimming.
